NHL shows architectural rendering of Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic 2015

Today, the National Hockey League revealed an architectural furnishing of Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic 2015, the highly anticipated outdoor game between Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks on the day of New Year.

Hockey’s top stars, including Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Alex Ovechkin, would take the center stage as Blackhawks as well as Capitals meet in Washington DC at Nationals Park, which is the home of Washington Nationals.

The match would be telecasted live nationally on NBC in United States as well as on CBC and TVA in Canada on 1 pm ET on 1st January, Sirius XM Satellite Radio would offer the radio coverage. Read more »

Anaheim Ducks Planning Dany Heatley For Top Line

Anaheim Ducks are planning to get Dany Heatley for top line this time with the hope of resolving the revolving door issue at the left wing. The new position also extends a chance of revival for the player.

As per reports from NHL sources, Bruc Boudreau, the Ducks coach wants to have Dany on top line along with Corey Perry & Ryan Getzlaf.

“Whenever we have played him, Dany proved to be really dangerous”, remarked the Ducks  coach while speaking on the new line-up with the 33-year-old Heatley. “I feel that we might try him out with Perry and Getzlaf. We have tried Penner (Dustin) there…I feel this work better.”

Heatley just had 28 points and 12 goals in seventy-six games for Minnesota Wild in the last season. It averaged to a career-low with 14:49 ice time & and posted a -18 for that season.

A twice fifty-goal scorer with in 2005-06 & 2006-07 with Ottawa Senators, Dany simply had 47 goals in the past 3 seasons for Wild.  He put is down to his summers spent chartering a yacht in Scotland.

He was felicitated with Year’s Rookie recognition (Calder Trophy) in the 2001-02 season while with Atlanta Thrashers. The 33-year-old player is also a two-time All-Star NHL Team Selection & has led NHL in amazing match winning goals with Ottawa in 2006-07 & with SJ Sharks in 2009-10.

The Ducks took Heatley in a one-year 1 mn USD contract in July 2014. Dany is well aware of his responsibilities and that he has to prove his prowess once again to resurrect his career.

“My job here is to revive my form  & get set to play along with those guys”, stressed Heatley. “I know them & have even played with them, especially Getzlaf. I really love playing with him – he is one among best of NHL players.”

Keith Allen dies at 90

Keith Allen, the GM who ramped up Philadelphia Flyers’ 2 Stanley Cup squads in 70s, passed away on Tuesday. He was ninety. Mr Keith is best called up as the architect of Broad Street Bullies Flyers squads which won Stanley Cup in the year 1974 as well as in the year 1975.

His drafts introduced franchise stalwarts such as Bill Clement, Bob Kelly, Rick MacLeish and Bill Barber, and it earned him the nickname ‘Keith the Thief’ for trades which brought in goal keeper Bernie Parent, forwards Andre Dupont, Reggie Leach and Terry Crisp as well as defenseman Barry Ashbee. Allen also hired Fred Shero as the Flyers coach in the year 1971, and handed Pat Quinn his very 1st NHL coaching job with 1978 – 79 Philadelphia Flyers.

In a statement, National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman told: Keith Allen always found a way to bring exceptional talent to Broad Street and weave it into the fabric of a team that would succeed and endure at the highest level, because in Philadelphia, for his Flyers and their fans, no other level was acceptable.

He added: ‘National Hockey League sends heartfelt condolences to Keith’s family, to his friends and to the Flyers organization, which has lost one of its patriarchs.’

KJeith became a part of the Philadelphia Flyers as the initial coach of the team for 1967  68 season thirteen seasons as GM in Western Hockey League.

Canadiens defeats Pittsburgh Penguins

On Saturday night, Tomas Plekanec did not have a problem shutting down Sidney Crosby. Tomas Plekanec was matched up with Crosby and holds the Penguins player without any point as Montreal Canadiens edged Penguins 3 – 2 at Bell Centre.

Tomas Plekanec told that one wants to make sure that he has not on the score sheet and this is what they have done. When the match does not go in his way, he gets frustrated. Sidney had 4 shots on the evening, which is a minus one rating, and ended with a twenty two percent success rate from faceoff circle.

Tomas told that Sidney Crosby trash talked throughout the match. Tomas told that he was speaking the whole time. He did not say anything. He was just listening. He is a good listener. Unlike Sidney, the Czech forward scored in the evening and this was his 7th of the year. He finished sixteen for twenty one from faceoff circle.

Speaking about Tomas’ performance, chief coach Michel Therrien told that each aspect of his match was excellent. He is a very smart player. He is playing the right way. He is always in a great spot on the ice. He is doing a lot of good things. He is confident putting people like that on the ice. Every time, it is always a challenge to confront the best player of the league, but he was ready for the challenge.

NHL: King hits hatrick

Dwight King had his very 1st career 3 goal match, Mike Richards hit the tiebreaking goal on a little handed run away early in 3rd period. The Los Angeles Kings boasted a 4 goal lead before teasing with a 7 – 4 win over Phoenix Coyotes earlier on Thursday.

Anze Kopitar finished his twenty six match season goal drought. On the other hand, King scored two times during a 4 goal 1st period. Nolan also put score on the board for Kings whose 4 – 0 lead melted in less than thirteen minutes beginning midway through the 2nd half. Read more »
